Service User Involvement & Community Engagement; Luton & Bedfordshire
The Connects Mission Statement:
To create a pathway that promotes an ethos of inclusion, recovery and progression, through building confidence, training and development opportunities
For those who are socially isolated and for those lacking a network of support around them, the first step to independence and inclusion can be to simply leave one’s home and engage with peers.
Connects creates opportunities; for training, personal development, peer mentoring, volunteering and opportunities to progress to paid employment.
The Connects weekly social group offers opportunities to learn skills; conversation building, confidence and self esteem, as well as offering visits and recreational activities.
Connects also offers a timetable of training workshops across Luton and Bedford; such as managing independence, health & fitness, photography, music, cooking, art therapy, interview skills and CV writing.
VOLUNTEERING & PEER MENTORING
With the support of our Volunteer & Peer Mentor Coordinator, Penrose Bedfordshire have created a pathway for Volunteers and Champions across Roots, Connects and other Penrose Synergy services. Penrose offers training, support, coaching, mentoring and opportunities for service users, and the general public, to utilise and expand their own assets and skill base, in a supported volunteering role. All volunteers are DBS checked and offered a comprehensive induction with Penrose.
Penrose have a bespoke in-house training package for Peer Mentoring, offering training, support and placements to individuals interested in supporting their peers through mentoring.
