Penrose has been helping vulnerable adults make a change to their lives for over 45 years. We deliver a wide range of residential and support services addressing issues including mental health, substance misuse, social isolation, domestic violence and the sex industry.

We are looking for a talented, passionate and ambitious Service Manager to join our Criminal Justice Services, as we continue to grow whilst ensuring we meet the highest possible standards of support for our service users.

Penrose Criminal Justice Services (Penrose CJS) deliver an array of services across London. In partnership with London Community Rehabilitation Company (LCRC), we deliver resettlement support in four prisons and provide post-release supervision for two thousand men each year across every London borough.

Penrose CJS also manage a range of residential and floating support services, and an expanding employability service. This role will be responsible for:

  • Redbridge services – an 8-bedroom property for male service users alongside a floating support service working with the Borough’s Integrated Offender Management (IOM) clients
  • Aspire (Sutton) – an 8-bedroom property for male service users and a further 10 independent living properties for men and women dispersed across the Borough
  • Our employment support service, including organising quarterly Job Fairs and continuing to develop our network of ‘offender-friendly’ employers
  • A third residential service in South London, likely to transfer to Penrose’s management in Spring 2018

You will be responsible for leading each service, ensuring they meet or exceed performance targets and achieve positive outcomes for their residents and clients. Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, and being able to develop excellent working relationships with your teams, commissioners and other key stakeholders will be vital to the role.

You will lead your teams to ensure that every service user receives a tailored support plan to address their specific issues and risks, whilst also harnessing their strengths and ambitions. You will work with your services to build networks of support services in each locality, and will identify opportunities to expand our provision into new areas.

You will make sure each service is adequately staffed, and will support your Team Leaders with recruitment, training, supervisions, appraisals and continuing professional development processes so that staff feel knowledgeable, confident and safe in their roles.

You will ensure that each residential service is kept as close to fully occupied as possible at all times, addressing any voids in a timely fashion. You will support Penrose’s Head of Housing to ensure that all rental income is received and any arrears are addressed.

Where necessary and appropriate, you will work with managers in our CRC teams to maximise any opportunities for joined-up working and addressing unmet needs amongst our client group.

You will have a passion for working with people with experience of the criminal justice system and/or with other marginalised groups, and a belief that everyone can turn their life around regardless of past or present circumstances. You will have some previous management experience, an ability to motivate and inspire, and a keen eye for detail.
